Climate refugees
Federal politicians are this week being urged to support a bill that could see Australia accept hundreds of refugees, who’s countries are vulnerable to rising sea levels. A report into the effects of Climate change has found there could be up to 200 million climate refugees world-wide by 2050, affecting many of Australia’s neighbours. In fact the Carteret Islands in Papua New Guinea are already being evacuated because they’ve become progressively uninhabitable. In the Senate today a Greens bill on climate refugees is up for debate. Emma Brindall from Friends of the Earth Australia discussed the effect climate change is having on some of the most vulnerable nations in the world.
