Climate change driving Pacific communities inland
As Australian negotiators prepare to head off to Qatar for the Doha Conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, we have been sent a powerful message about the real, current impacts of global warming on our neighbours.
Dr Alice Aruhe’eta Pollard is a community leader and the Director of West ‘Are ‘Are Rokotanikeni in the Solomon Islands, an International Women’s Development Agency partner organisation. She is in the country to discuss the very real and immediate impact that rising water levels , caused by global warming, have on Pacific Island countries, by causing a massive displacement of locals in coastal areas and endangering their way of life.
