Climate change is our biggest security threat: Greens
Senator Richard Di Natale, leader of the Greens, announced his party’s foreign policy platform today.
The biggest surprise?
Global warming being treated as an issue of foreign policy and regional security, as opposed to a domestic or economic issue.
Senator Di Natale says that the “100 year war” we will potentially face against the social pressures of a changed climate is unlike any security threat we have had to deal with in the past.
He also called for a conversation to be had around the benefits of the US – Australia military alliance, particularly in context of territorial disputes currently occurring around the South China Sea.
The Wire spoke to Dr. Adam Lockyer, Senior Lecturer in Security Studies at Macquarie University about how the Greens’ foreign policy adds up.
