Class Size Increase at Aussie Universities

A new report by the Australian vice chancellors committee, has found that over the past 10 years university class sizes have increased by an average of 33% across the nation. In some cases the rise was far more severe – Charles Sturt University was one of the worst effected with teacher-to-student ratios swelling from an average of 20 students per teacher in 1996 to 35 students per teacher in 2004. Lucy Watchirs Smith spoke to John Mullarvey chief executive officer for the Australian vice chancellors committee, and Jodie Jansen president of the National Union of Students.
