As the Australian government deliberates about what should be done about the 83 Sri Lankan asylum seekers who are current on Christmas Island, the shire president of the island has spoken out against the Government’s refusal to process the claims quickly. Speaking today, Gordon Thomson said it would be a shameful situation of the asylum seekers were sent back to Indonesia, a country that is not a signatory to UN conventions protecting the rights of Refugees.
