Christian Porter loses a bet – but will get some Ink
In a somewhat impulsive bet, Attorney General Christian Porter bet his staff that he would get a tattoo if they increased their majority, as polls had his Perth seat of Pearce line ball prior to the election. He actually doubled his majority in the seat, but he says that doesn’t necessarily double the size of the tatt. It does highlight however how badly the polls predicted the outcome of this year’s election – even the exit polls – with virtually everyone from betting agencies to Doctors Wives being surprised by the return of the Morrison Government.
With the withdrawal of Tanya Plibersek from the Labor leadership race, attention focuses on Anthony Albanese, Chris Bowen, Joel Fitzgibbon and Jim Chalmers, as the numbers are run by party strategists and factional heavyweights well into the night.
