Australia’s Defence Minister is in lock-step with his US counterpart Ash Carter over warning China to stop building islands in the South China Sea. Jittery neighbours like Vietnam and the Phillipines make uncommon bedfellows with the US on the issue of Chinese expansion. Of course, China’s economic lifeblood flows though the South China sea and they are taking steps to better their chances in case of future conflict – and this heightens tensions.
