Three Brisbane boys have wearily returned from Chile this month after competing in one of the toughest endurance races in the world. The Atacama Desert in Chile, rated one of the driest places in the world, has often been used by NASA to test its Mars rover vehicles because of its lunar-like landscape. Brisbane athletes Greg Layton, Glen Hunt, and Matt Meckenstock chose to run across it in a seven-day, six-stage, two hundred and fifty-kilometre ultra marathon. David Lather spoke to the runners about the extreme conditions.
