History was made today in Australia as the first Indigenous leader of any state or territory was sworn in. Adam Giles accepted the position of Chief Minister of the Northern Territory yesterday after former Minister Terry Mills was removed while overseas. Giles was welcomed into the Liberal Party by a power bloc of other Indigenous people, and many supporters hope this will mean greater importance of Aboriginal issues and power to improve the lives of Territorians.
