Melbourne’s Asylum Seeker Resource Centre has grown from  an emergency food distribution service 16 years ago to a dynamic organisation that provides  legal advice and medical and psychiatric services for asylum seekers, as well as running social enterprises that provide the centre with an income.   It also offers free lunch and a Foodbank service providing  nutritious food to more than 600 people a week, and helps find accommodation for  those doing it tough as they wait for visas and work rights. It recently commissioned a study into how language can be used to change negative public opinion about asylum seekers.
