Sir David Attenborough is among a number of prominent environmentalists that have commented on proposals by the Federal government to reform the Australian Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. They are concerned the transfer of assessment and approval powers to the states would weaken the act and have ‘significant and negative implications for the conservation of biological diversity and achieving ecologically sustainable development.’
