Changes made but Native Title still too reliant on Indigenous burden of proof

New legislation has been passed that will accelerate the processing of Native Title claims. Amendments to the Native Title Act give the Federal Courts greater power to mediate and set timelines for claims that can take between one to ten years to settle. But Brian Wyatt, Chairperson of the National Native Title Commission, says that the burden of proof on Indigenous people also needs to change.
