Now, Australia’s tough laws on people smugglers are being challenged in the highest court in Victoria. In a landmark legal ruling yesterday, a County Court of Victoria has asked the Court of Appeal in Victoria – the state’s highest court – to review people smuggling laws.Lawyers representing 12 Indonesians facing people smuggling charges are arguing that the men should have no case to answer as they were assisting asylum seekers who have a legal right to come to Australia.
