Mining union, the CFMEU today has released a survey showing that 95% of Australians back public investment in renewable energy like solar and wind power, while 73% back clean cola technology, as a way to tackle climate change. In contrast, only 39% of the 800 people surveyed, who were drawn from marginal electorates, believe nuclear energy is a solution to the problem of global warming. The union claimed that its poll was evidence that the majority of Australians do not support the government’s preferred model of promoting nuclear energy as a way to reduce our country’s CO2 emissions. But with clean coal technology still unproven, is this really a solution either?
