A special dawn ceremony will be held at the Gold Coast on Saturday to recognise Aboriginal people who died while defending their country. The event has been held annually since 1991, and honours men and women who fought in international wars, as well as those who battled the first European settlers. One of the organisers of the ceremony Pat O’Connor from the Yugamberh Aboriginal Language Museum said the ceremony was important for recognising the sacrifices Indigenous people made for a country that didn’t always appreciate them, and hoped it would bring the community together
