A version of Centrelink’s now infamous robo-debt recovery system has been trialled on some of Australia’s most vulnerable welfare recipients.

Vulnerability indicators are included on the Centrelink files and are designed to protect those with mental illness, cognitive impairment, who may be homeless or face other challenges.

The trial has been paused so the Department of Human Services can ensure they handle vulnerable cases with sensitivity.

Despite the delay, many in social services are concerned with the impact this could have on vulnerable Australians.
