NAIDOC week has kicked off around the country with indigenous communities in towns and cities around Australia due to celebrate at a huge variety of events. Most of those diverse events will have one thing in common – they’ll be celebrating the history of the Canberra tent embassy. The theme of this year’s NAIDOC week is ‘The Tent Embassy, forty years on’, and those participating in the weeks activities say that they’ll be celebrating the gains made by activism in past decades, as well as drawing attention to the work that remains to be done.
