Australia has two and a half million carers and lots of them were out today to lobby the Federal Government for an increase to the allowance – they’d like to see it doubled, at a cost of over a billion dollars, but Carers Australia president Louise Gilmore says it’s a cheaper option than the cost to the public purse of putting people in residential care.
