ACOSS is joined by community based groups around Australia who says carbon tax is inevitable, but the devil is in the compensation details. Meanwhile the unavoidable backlash on Prime Minister Gillard’s carbon tax offers a sweetener. The “safety net buffer” is meant to protect the most vulnerable income groups. But National community peak body ACOSS says the government has missed its vital opportunity to engage the larger public on climate change. They also say the government has to now turn its attention to equitable distribution of its safety buffer.
