Carbon tax funds could save threatened Alps
A co-author of a report into the impacts of climate change on the nation’s Alps says the carbon tax could help fund the urgently required management programs.
The fortunes of our nation’s alpine parks are anything but cool, with a new report today warning up to a quarter less rain and snow will be forecast for the region by 2050. The research released by the Federal Climate Change Department suggests the area is already suffering from serious degradation and will be worsened by further climate change. Roger Good, co-author of the report “Caring For Our Australian Alps Catchments” now hopes that funds from a potential carbon tax will go towards protecting the region.
