The question on everyone’s lips is how we will we afford the carbon tax, especially if the figures floating around about how much electricity will rise are correct. Professor Garnaut’s review recommends that 55% of the money raised from the carbon tax go straight towards compensating low to middle income households. He suggests that the best way to do this is through tax cuts – and implementing the recommendations of last year’s Henry Tax Review. Greens Deputy Leader and Climate Change Spokesperson Christine Milne supports this idea but says the most vulnerable Australians will be left out.
