Senator Scott Ludlam has told The Wire that a price on carbon won’t save us from peak oil, even though it will help us deal with climate change. Peak oil is the term used to describe the point of maximum world oil production, a point that some experts say has passed by years ago, because oil supplies are running out. Senator Ludlam says that in a time of looming oil shortages, the Labor party continues to focus its spending on oil dependent infrastructure. He says that implementing a carbon price without providing clean transport alternatives as well will leave us vulnerable to spikes in oil prices.
