The Federal government today announced its intention to cut 2005 levels of carbon emissions by 26% by the year 2030. When Australia attends the international summit on climate change in Paris later this year, it will be with one of the smallest emissions targets in the world. Countries like Germany and the US have pledged cuts in excess of forty percent within the same time period, raising the question of how Australia can justify this reluctance to reduce.
