Canadian success story working with violent communities
When there are problems of violence or abuse within a community, its often very closed shop to the rest of the world and so very difficult to get help in to try and break the cycle of what may have become a bullying violent culture. In Canada a program called “Walking the Prevention Circle” has had remarkable success and is now being delivered in 12 countries across Asia and Africa. The Red Cross are looking at trying it out here. . They’ve brought Shelley Cardinal, a member of Canada’s Cree Nation, to Australia to talk about the program. She says the program has to be invited into a community first, after which they begin to build a team within that community.
