Campaigners for Indigenous recognition in the constitution say the delay in holding a referendum on the issue has been crucial in building a ‘yes’ vote. A national relay to build support for constitutional recognition completed its first 700 kilometre stage yesterday in Adelaide.

The relay will now continue to its final destination, the Garma Festival in Arnhem Land next month. Supporters on the relay say they’re making significant progress towards their aim of building enough support for a ‘Yes’ vote at a referendum within two years.
