In Australia, camels are regarded by some as a nuisance. On the Arabian Peninsula, the story is quite different.

For a few weeks every year, beauty pageants celebrate the animal – part of a cultural heritage dating back hundreds of years, central to means of transport, entertainment and food.

Associated with beauty and wealth, these creatures reign in millions of dollars in prize money to their owners, but some have criticised the lack of transparency surrounding the scoring system.
