A leading British ocean scientist has called for drastic measures to deal with global warming in the wake of evidence that arctic sea ice cover has reached record lows. Professor Peter Wadhams is a professor of ocean physics at Cambridge University. He believes that a global disaster is now unfolding in northern latitudes of the planet as the melting arctic releases methane that has until now been trapped under ice. Although he says he’s suspicious of using technology to solve problems created by technology, he says we’ve left our response so late that more desperate measures like so called ‘geoengineering’ may be necessary.
