There’s a growing movement in Australia and globally to recognize nature as having inherent rights, and recently Australia’s third Wild Law conference was held in Brisbane. Neglecting the rights of nature is seen as being the cause of the environmental problems humans are currently facing.

And in the debate over coal seam gas and how to deal with climate change, there’s a growing recognition that the rights of the environment must be taken into account. So this movement is calling for nature’s rights to be recognized in the legal system to restore the balance between humans and nature.
