Calls for stronger action to reduce nuclear arms

It’s now 45 years since the world agreed to ban the spread of nuclear weapons and move towards their total elimination. But as of this year there are still around 17 000 nuclear warheads in stockpiles around the planet, with up to 90 per cent belonging to the USA and Russia. Right now the ninth conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is being held in New York. For those working towards their total elimination, there have been some positive messages coming from the event, but much more needs to be done.
