Calls for Rudd to deliver on promises of free media

When the Rudd Government was elected, in 2007, it vowed to create a new era of openness and accountability in government. But two years on, and a new report into Press Freedom says the Federal Government has ‘fallen into inertia’ and is failing to deliver on some of its promised openness reforms. Of particular concern, are issues of Freedom of Information, Whistleblower Protection and what is described as the urgent need for new Shield Laws.
