Calls for Inquiry into Indigenous art exploitation

The Federal Government this week announced plans to investigate allegations of criminal activity and exploitation in the Aboriginal art industry. There have been rumours of fraud and misconduct for years, including claims of artists posing with paintings that are not their own, and producing work in sweat-shop like conditions for little or no pay. But two separate investigations by WA Police and the ACCC have failed to uncover solid evidence. Federal Arts Minister Rod Kemp says he will meet industry and Government agencies, to investigate how to tackle the problem.
