Independent Senator Nick Xenophon has called for Australia to introduce anti-cult legislation. He says cults have become more sophisticated and dangerous and protection is needed for individuals caught up in sects. The senator is proposing laws similar to those in France, where judges can break up cults if their leaders are involved with criminal activity. The calls for reform come a week after South Australian police raided the properties of members of the Agape Ministries, seizing a stockpile of explosives, guns and ammunition.
