Calling for the end of nuclear weapons

A public forum in Melbourne tonight will examine the continued proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide and the hidden role Australia plays. Despite the end of the cold war 20 years ago the world still has 20 thousand nuclear weapons on standby. The Australian Red Cross and The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) are holding the forum and are arguing for stronger action to cut the number of warheads. ICAN has also criticised Australia’s “Future Fund”, which is using taxpayer funds to invest in companies that build nuclear weapons. (The Future Fund was also contacted, but did not get back to us to comment)
