The Australian Youth Affairs Coalition has today called for increases in the amount of money young people on Youth Allowance receive. At the same time as Shadow Treasurer, Joe Hockey has demanded for a drastic overhaul to the welfare system.

Natalie Lammas, Director of Policy and Projects, from the AYAC said that young people on Youth Allowance are struggling to survive. The AYAC’s calls have also been backed by the Henry Tax Review, the OECD and the Australian Council of Social Services.
