Tasmanian Premier Paul Lennon is in hot water after Liberal and Greens MPs called for a Royal Commission into his role in the Gunns ltd pulp mill controversy. Christine Milne says there’s inconsistency between Liberal Nick Minchin’s dismissal of the Royal Commission and the Liberal Party’s stance in Tasmania. Geoff Law from the Wilderness Society says the rejection is a blow for democracy, and the environment is not sustainable enough to justify the prospective jobs. The Forest Association of Australia’s Terry Edwards says he can understand the attempt to fast-track the proposal when Gunns ltd is losing millions of dollars per month in the length environmental assessment process.
