Cafes against the Murdoch Press give people a different read
The blatantly anti-government front pages of newspapers like the Daily Telegraph have sparked huge debate around the country about whether our media should be more regulated or not. Public complaints about the election coverage have prompted Chair of the Australian Press Council, Julian Disney, to write to the major dailies urging them to keep news and editorials clearly separated. But some cafes have given up hope.
When a Brisbane café posted a notice on its window advising customers they would no longer be stocking any newspapers produced by Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp, who own 14 of our 21 metro daily and Sunday newspapers, they received a surprising response.
