Cafe employees get paid too much!
The Senate inquiry into the governments Industrial Relations bill has recommended seven changes to the controversial legislation. Government Senators have requested that special provisions be made to protect low paid out-workers and that 4 weeks annual leave be protected for full time employees. But Coalition Senators said the bill should pass the Senate even if the changes were not possible. Meanwhile the restaurant and cafe industry has come out in full support of the radical laws. The lobby group “Restaurant and Catering NSW” says labour costs in their industry are simply too high, and believes the new “Fair Pay commission” will be more flexible when awarding increases for low paid workers. Unions say this attitude proves their case, that the laws are really designed to cut wages and many australian workers will be disavantaged by the changes. This report (from Erica Vowles) begins with JOHN HART from “Restaurant and Catering NSW”. He denies his organisation is calling for lower wages.
