Busway development puts pollution in focus
Recent reports of global warming have seen communities around Australia push for more sustainable living, including increasing public transport infrastructure. While it is generally agreed that the use of public transport can help ease the pollution problem, a plan in Queensland to build a busway adjacent to a primary school has the community protesting that it would put pollution right in the childrens’ backyard. The hundred and twenty year old school is just the first of many that will be along the route of new busways across the city. We speak with concerned parents Mary Fotinos and Dr Edi Sottile as well as local news editor Jodie Powell whose newspaper has been following the story.
