The government announced a new ‘hiring credit’ scheme that is expected to create about 450,000 new jobs.

It’s intended to create new jobs for workers currently on one of three welfare payments, but who will actually benefit from the scheme?

Kristin O’Connell, a spokesperson for the Australian Unemployed Workers Union, says businesses might maximise the new scheme by only meeting the minimum requirement of a 20 hour work-week for new jobs.
