As Treasurer Wayne Swan put it, the Governments budget was all about ‘jobs, jobs and jobs’ with the aim to get those on welfare back into the workforce. Welfare recipients were the focus of the budget with the government to spend 233 million dollars on the long-term unemployed, forcing teen parents back to work as well as introducing strict new work tests for the disability support pension.
