Many young indigenous women on the Central coast of Queensland have learnt to appreciate culture, each other, and themselves – through the highly successful “Sista Girl” programs being run in various communities. Now efforts are afoot in the township of Cherbourg – to develop a similar “Brother Boy” program for young men – aimed at curbing domestic violence. Nurunderie TAFE Inidgenous Education Director Eric Law says long term, he wants to see both groups working together for stronger indigenous families.
