In 2007 after a gang of Aboriginal Australians were blamed for a series of crimes, the South Australian Rann Government commissioned the Breaking the Cycle report. Aimed at helping to stop juvenile crime, the report examined what needed to be done in communities. But five years later the government still hasn’t responded to the recommendations of the report.
Khatija Thomas is the Commissioner for Aboriginal Engagement in South Australia, and belives that the Indigenous community needs a response from the government in order to establish proper channels of communication and progress.
