The Helping Hand Aged Care Facility is next door to a school and at first that looked like a problem. But a vandalism incident several years ago has resulted in a relationship between school children and elderly residents that’s a model of how the generation gap can be made to work. Sue Emerson from Helping Hand told Laine Langridge how the children have built a pathway linking the two institutions, set up an Internet cafe and are have worked with residents developing their computer skills and helping them put together family histories.
