At least 8 people have killed and 45 injured in co-ordinated overnight attacks across the South of Thailand involving up to 50 bomb blasts. The attacks are the first since the military coup seized control of the government from Thaksin Shinawatra. Some 2000 people have been killed in attacks in the south since 2004 the separatist movement recommenced a military campaign in 2004. The attacks occurred in three Muslim-majority states, which previously were part of an autonomous sultanate, before Bangkok rule took over in 1904.
