Brazil’s election results are in, and right-wing candidate Jair Bolsonaro is now president of the fifth most populous country on earth.

Bolsonaro beat the Worker’s Party candidate Fernando Hadad in the final round of voting on Sunday.

His election represents a strong right wing turn for the country, after the left wing Worker’s Party won the past four elections.

Caitlin McHugh spoke to Sean Burges, Deputy Director of the Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies at ANU, and asked how Bolsonaro achieved this victory
