In this day and age it’s a real challenge to buy clothes and shoes that aren’t made in a sweatshop. The people who make the clothes we wear endure harrowing working conditions for terrible pay. There are sweatshops all over the world, including Australia, and organizations such as Oxfam are calling on multinational companies to change their work practices. But a new campaign, by Canadian activist magazine Adbusters, has decided to go one step further, serving the ball squarely in Nike’s court. Adbusters have decided to create their own sneaker, made by workers who are paid fairly and treated well. What a novel idea. Cinnamon Nippard spoke to Adbusters Campaign Manager, Tim Walker.
