85 years ago today the last Tasmanian Tiger died. Fast forward to 2011 and we’ve seen drastic drops in population numbers of many plants and animals due to our impact on the environment. Today is Threatened Species Day and the focus is on just how much has been lost, and why.

Lack of water is one reason – it particularly impacts wetlands where birds breed.David Paton is an ecologist who’s spent his life studying the heritage-listed Coorong wetlands in the Lower Murray Basin.He told Bill Walter what it would look like if they took a stroll there 50 years ago.
