A Federal Enquiry into language learning in indigenous communities has been swamped by submissions strongly supporting a bilingual approach. The enquiry was set up after the previous Doing Time enquiry into Aboriginal incarceration found maintaining one’s language was strongly linked to staying out of gaol.

The enquiry hopes to make strong policy recommendations about the teaching of indigenous languages and the bilingual approach in communities.
