Big shifts continue in media landscape
The media shake-up in Australia just keeps on going with Fairfax unveiling a nationalised editorial structure and News Ltd flagging a possible split between its profitable entertainment and broadcasting arm, and its publishing interests.
Fairfax and News Ltd seem to be going punch for punch in making newsroom and editorial changes to help boost the profitability of their businesses. In New York today News Corp bosses are discussing a possible division of assets while at the same time, Fairfax has announced a consolidated national editorial platform that will supposedly break down the divide between its print and online platforms. Sounds good for profit, but is it good for journalism?
