It’s looking more and more like a game of Monopoly as the big supermarkets snap up petrol and liquor outlets. It makes life easy for consumers but hard if you are an independent operator. It’s now six weeks since the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission okayed the practice of retailers like Woollies extending their market share. Anna Gillam spoke to Ian Perry from IGA and Ron Bowden from the Service Station Owners Assoocaition to see what effect the new shopping habits were having on those outside the main game.
